What an epic list. Birthdays are at least good for commemoration!
It was great to have the older pieces linked, really enjoyed seeing some new ones. That Jung image really got me today. I love the caption “It is a psychological rule that the brighter the light, the darker the shadow” but not sure I’ve seen the picture.
That egg machine has reminded me that I have one that I should use. Unlike you, I’m a bad dash owner!
This is a positive thing. I’ve been re-reading John Berger’s ‘Ways of Seeing’ and appreciate the chapters of photo essays. I’m sure you’ve read this one but if not, well worth a look.
…blockchain cameras is an awesome idea…web3 ideas feel increasingly important to sovereignty…dense and thoughtful list…i imagine you hate me saying this so sorry not sorry but happy birthday to you (and us because we get to have this list)…the amount of life you lived in these ideas i would think you were 90 if you didn’t tell me (and that is a compliment i think, but also time is false, and words are misleading sometimes)…tip a glass of whatever for ya!…
I'm generally bearish on web3 stuff (I think most of it is at best a get-rich-quick scheme and at worst ponzi scams) but I do think blockchain will have lasting impact for provenance/truth telling. Bitcoin too will last imo.
Haha no I appreciate the birthday wishes!! <3 thank you CansaFis.
I found myself thinking through a lot about myself after reading. I appreciate the window into your authentic self through this list. I laughed, I nodded in intense agreement, I wondered how we both could have reached such similar conclusions.
Brilliant list! Like Claire, I was really struck by the Jung caption. The idea of the shadow self and individuation really captivates me. I also love how you played with contradictions throughout, it felt very honest.
And I loved how poetic this one was: "I know that grief is love with nowhere to go. They’re gone and you’re still here."

Great job, Lily
Yes, great for commemoration! And for any curious cats who want a deeper dive.
Google search still turns up some cool images :) I realize I spend a decent chunk of time thinking about images in essays.
Thank you for reading the list and enjoy your own Dash <3

I've read bits and pieces of Ways of Seeing, but you inspired me to look at the whole thing so I just ordered it :) Thank you Claire!
